by ensemble member Benjamin James Wilson

directed by Lillian Tillson

Avery Cannon is a run of the mill, yet henpecked poet by day and a serial arsonist by night. Accompany him as he finds himself lost in a waking dream with no end in sight and no way out. He is joined in this chimera by his aggravated girlfriend, a jaded psychiatrist and his patient, and a sardonic janitor who holds all of the answers Avery seeks or maybe none of them.

Loosely based on a Rupert Brooke poem, this new play by Youngblood’s resident playwright Benjamin James Wilson is both darkly comedic and slightly terrifying. You will never look at an ice-scraper or Zippo® lighter the same way again.

youngBLOOD DRIVE - Friday, July 23 2-6pm

As some of you may have heard, on the evening of January 23rd, I was attacked and stabbed outside of a friend's house in Milwaukee. What you may not know is that that evening I received two life-saving blood transfusions. The nature and location of the wound made it nearly impossible to close the artery, and all told it took a GIFT of 24 units of blood, 9 units of plasma, and two emergency surgeries to keep me alive.

That gift is why I am writing you. I will never know the names, see the faces, or shake the hands of the people who gave to me that night. I will never know how often they gave, why they did it or if they were nervous at first. I will never know them but I can think of only one way to thank them; by giving to someone else what they have given to me. In order to do that though, I need your help. I am asking you, my friends and family to give of your self, your time and perhaps your comfort, to donate blood. To please give as often as you can, and encourage others to join you.

This is not meant to guilt or pressure anyone. I just wanted to personally invite you, the people that I know and care about, to join me on July 23rd for the youngBLOOD DRIVE on the campus of UWM. We will be taking donations from 2pm-6pm. If you have any questions, please call or email me. The link to sign up for a time slot is below along with my contact info. Just click on the link and follow the instructions to choose a time that works for you. If your not sure when you will be available, you can still donate the day of, just stop in when you have the time.

Also, anyone who donates blood will be given a free ticket to see that evenings performance of DRIVE ME TO ARSON, an original play, produced by Youngblood Theatre Company, in the studio theatre downstairs from the blood drive location. It is my first show back on stage with our company since the cancelation in January. There will be a reception with food and beverages in between the end of the drive and the beginning of the show, also free to everyone.

Thank You so much guys for listening, and even if you can't help out, I want you to know that the love and support i have been showered with, means more to me than I can ever tell you. Thank You again, I hope to see you all in two weeks!

Gratefully Yours,
-Andrew
